Heat & Lot Traceability
The link between a piece of metal and the melt and processing lot it came from, carried by marking and certificate.
Traceability is only real when the heat and lot are marked on the item itself and recorded on the packing list, not merely on a bundle tag. For cut blanks, each piece carries the part number, heat and lot so it can be verified at the machine. Re-bundling mixed heats on receipt destroys traceability, and on an aerospace order usually the acceptance with it.
